WebP to JPG Converter

The quality setting (1–100) controls how aggressively JPG compresses. Filevo defaults to 85 — the golden value for web and everyday sharing: compression artifacts are essentially invisible while files stay around half the size of quality 100.

WebP is a modern format Google built for fast-loading websites, but that speed comes with a compatibility tax: plenty of everyday tools still cannot open a .webp file. Converting WebP to JPG turns a web-only image into a file that opens literally everywhere — every phone, camera app, email client, photo printer, and operating system has read JPG for over 30 years.

People convert WebP to JPG for three recurring reasons: the file will not open or send (an email, an older CMS, a print shop, or a job-application portal rejects .webp); a program cannot read it (older Photoshop versions and many Office installs open JPG but choke on WebP); or they simply want a normal photo file. If you instead need a transparent background or a pixel-perfect logo, JPG is the wrong target — convert WebP to PNG for that.

This is the single most common reason people land here. On Windows 10 and 11, File Explorer shows WebP thumbnails but double-clicking often opens nothing useful — Windows Photos did not support WebP for years, and many machines still do not. Paint can open WebP, but most people never think to try it, and it cannot batch-convert a folder.

The reliable fix is to convert WebP to JPG once, up front. A JPG opens in Windows Photos, in Preview on Mac, in every browser, and in every editor without a plugin or a Microsoft Store download. Drop your .webp files above, convert to JPG, and the "can't open this file" problem disappears for good — including for whole batch folders of images you downloaded in one go.

The short version: WebP wins on file size, JPG wins on compatibility. WebP is the right format for a website you control; JPG is the right format the moment a file has to leave your machine and open somewhere you do not control. Converting WebP to JPG trades a little file size for the guarantee that the image just works.

JPG has no transparency channel, so any transparent area in a WebP becomes a solid color in the JPG. This is expected, not a bug — JPG simply cannot store "see-through" pixels. Filevo fills transparent areas with white by default, which is the safest choice for photos, documents, and most uploads.

So the rule of thumb: photos and screenshots go WebP to JPG (smaller, universal); logos, icons, and anything that needs a see-through background should go WebP to PNG instead, which keeps the alpha channel exactly.

Both WebP and JPG are lossy formats, so a conversion re-encodes the image once. A few honest expectations: the file size usually goes up slightly, because JPG is less efficient than WebP — that is the cost of universal compatibility. You cannot recover detail WebP already discarded; converting can only preserve what is there. And sharp text or hard edges (screenshots, diagrams) compress better as PNG than JPG — for those, consider WebP to PNG.
